“As a founding board member looking back over the past 11 years, it has been amazing
to see all that has been accomplished from Second Chance Center’s humble beginnings.
In the height of Covid, SCC opened a 50-unit Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) unit
Providence at the Heights and addressed unprecedented labor market shortages through
workforce development initiatives. SCC developed upskilling apprenticeship readiness
programs and an extensive network of fair chance hiring employers. By expanding our
programs into the Department of Corrections and becoming a developer on our second
PSH development, Residences on Acoma, we plan to begin implementing our live, learn,
earn re-entry model. Returning citizens living in quality affordable housing, learning a
new skill or trade, and earning a mortgage-paying salary. As the organization continues to
grow, SCC is positioned to lead innovation in re-entry.”
KHALIL HALIM
Executive Director
“Second Chance Center is a beaming example of what can be achieved when a group of
dedicated individuals come together with a unified purpose and work towards a common
goal. When I first joined the SCC Board in 2018, the organization was still in its infancy
with limited resources and its Board meetings in a back room. Regardless, everyone
involved was determined to make a difference.
As my tenure progressed, I witnessed incredible work being done by SCC’s staff and
partners to reduce recidivism rates and forge innovative pathways for re-entry. These
pathways included a focus on mental health, supportive services, and career training,
rather than just job training, which resulted in remarkable success rates.
ROBYN WILLIAMS
Board Chair
Over the years, I have watched SCC flourish into a formidable advocate for successful
re-entry of justice-involved individuals. This growth is a testament to the organization’s
unwavering commitment to its mission and willingness to evolve and adapt in changing
times. With mission-oriented perseverance, unyielding dedication, and strong community
partnerships, Second Chance Center has become a beacon of hope for its clients and an
example of what can be achieved through commitment to purpose.”
