Hope Through Employment:
SCC’s Commitment to
Economic Empowerment
EMPLOYMENT
Stable employment is essential to successful
reentry, yet those with justice-involvement face
substantial challenges in securing meaningful
work. In 2024 Second Chance Center
continued its unwavering commitment to
breaking down employment barriers for
justice-involved individuals, providing
them with the resources and opportunities
needed to build stable, self-sufficient
futures.
Within the first year after release,
unemployment rates for formerly
incarcerated individuals can soar to
27%, significantly higher than national
averages. Without employment,
these individuals struggle to find
housing, meet basic needs, and
avoid reoffending. The stigma of a
criminal record, gaps in work history,
and limited vocational training only
add to the difficulties of workforce
reintegration.
Through career readiness programs,
job placement support, and
partnerships with employers committed
to second chances, SCC helped
individuals overcome these barriers
and secure fulfilling employment. By
expanding vocational training, advocating
for fair hiring practices, and promoting
economic empowerment, we are opening
doors to opportunity and equipping our
clients with the tools to succeed. Employment
is not just a job — it’s a path to dignity, stability,
and a brighter future for the entire community.
