PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: a glimpse into high-impact initiatives
Advanced
Age
Program
1
SCC’s Advanced Age Program supports individuals aging out of the prison
system after decades of incarceration. Many remain behind bars well past
parole eligibility due to a lack of housing or community ties — risking
release into homelessness without support. SCC intervenes before release,
helping clients secure benefits, transitional housing, and permanent
supportive housing. In 2024, over 100 older adults participated. To foster
belonging, we host monthly prosocial events — community service, game
days, Rockies games, museum visits, and bowling — creating space to
reconnect, heal, and thrive. This program builds a community within the
community, offering dignity, stability, and a real second chance

Mentoring
MOORE
Center
Peer Mentoring is central to SCC’s holistic approach. All mentors are
formerly incarcerated, offering relatable, empowering support grounded
in lived experience. In 2024, SCC provided 2,495 individual mentoring
sessions at SCCIC and Potomac. In addition, SCC offered Never Going
Back (NGB), a structured group focused on community, accountability, and
support. These trusted relationships help clients navigate reentry, recovery,
employment, and family reconnection — with guidance from those who’ve
lived it.
The MOORE Center, in partnership with the City and County of Denver,
supports individuals in community corrections with reentry and behavioral
health services. In 2024, over 40 residents received care management,
behavioral health and substance use education, workforce development,
and peer mentoring. SCC’s ComCor liaisons work closely with care managers
to ensure each person receives the structure, support, and encouragement
needed for successful reentry.
